Laurent Giles Yawl - Lutine of Helford

Classic Yacht Restoration
Lutine, designed by Laurent Giles, was built for Lloyd's Yacht Club of London at Camper and Nicholsons' Yard, Gosport. She was launched on 29th March 1952. Lutine, a Class 1 Ocean Racer, was built to the American Rule (CCA). LUTINE was purchased in September 1999 by Clive and Gillian Emerson, and an extensive refit began...She was launched for the Jubilee Cup Regatta in 2001.

Tarana

Classic Norman Dalimore Yacht Restoration
Norman Dalimore designed “Tarana” - This ‘single handed gentleman’s yacht’ is nearing completion of her major rebuild; she was much admired on the Classic Boat stand at the London Boat show in January 2007. She has been transformed from a very tired and run down vessel into a truly spectacular small cruiser.

Melanie

Abeking and Rasmussen Classic Restoration
The 1914 German classic Abeking and Rasmussen yacht “Melanie” came in to have her steel frames replaced, after 91 years there was not a lot left of some of them. Every alternate frame is wood and where these were in contact with the steel floors the wood had denatured so new ends were scarfed in, glued and riveted. All the pitch pine planking below the waterline was replaced as the bolts had denatured the planking after all this time.

Galene

1935 Classic Teal One Design Restoration
The present refit started with "a little softness" in the keelson and progressed to a full rebuild below the waterline.

'Galene' was built for Capt. Bertrand L. Ainsworth in 1937 at Luke Bros. of Hamble to lines drawn by A.R. Luke in about 1935. She is a "Teal One Design" and carried sail no. TL6. Galene was launched as "Thora", the name changing back in 1948. An engine was first fitted in about 1962 and changed to present Yanmar in 1999. She is 30ft LOA, 21ft LWL, 7ft Breadth and draws 5ft. Teal One Designs raced successfully in Solent races before the war, most notably in the Round the Island Race. A 1938 Beken photo of Thora shows her wearing 7 winner flags so she appears to have acquitted herself well.

Galene is presently looking smart with her new teak deck laid and we await instructions on her internal fit out.

Zaire

1933 Classic Silver Leaf Cruiser Motor Yacht Restoration
Restoration continues on Zaire, a 40ft Silver Leaf Cruiser Motor Vessel with a beam of 9ft 6". Designed by John Bain and built in 1933 by J.Silver Builders of Scotland, Zaire is planked in pitch pine on oak and carries an iron keel.

Restoration work so far has included new frames, planks, deck beams. Having been almost completely taken apart we are re-sheathing the decks and making new hatches and doors, the painting inside is almost finished. Zaire is looking very smart after having her decks and deckhouse roof painted and all her exterior bright work coated with Coelan. It is expected that the Coelan will give Zaire's owners a lot more time boating and much less time maintaining. New keel bolts have been fitted, and her engines have been installed after a full rebuild by Michael Wright, marine engineer.

Ivanhoe

1930 Classic Alden 60 Yawl Restoration
This Classic American Alden 60 yawl is now undercover and undergoing an extensive restoration and refit. Designed in 1928 by John G. Alden of Boston, USA, Chief Ivanhoe was built in 1930. She was one of 7 sister ships and has a prestigious and well documented racing history.

The refit includes laying a new teak deck, replacing deck beams as required, a galvanised steel ring frame for the cap shrouds, new hatches, major work to the deckhouse and cockpit coamings and a full interior fit out.
